weekend in review

I had plans to get up early saturday morning to head to the farmers market - but you know how you wait all week for Saturday morning when you can finally sleep in? Well, I slept in. And I loved it. My alarm went off at 8:30 (setting an alarm on the weekend is wrong on so many levels) and I hit snooze about 10 times before I finally just turned it off. I guess in my sleepy haze I decided that I had enough fresh fruit and veggies (though I have none) and didn't need to get out and start the day. I finally peeled myself out of bed around 11.

I spent the afternoon doing what I love - thrifting! I went to 5 thrift stores on my little afternoon run around and I think I was pretty successful. I also found my new favourite - it looks tiny from the outside, but once you're in it just goes on forever.

I got some fabric:

And some awesome shoes:

Naturalizer, $5.00

Maria Gabriella, $8.00

Bandolino, $5.00

A cherry red purse - I can see this being worn with a black dress and those red heels above.

KGB Studio, $2.50

A whole bunch of tops:

SWS, $3.99

ella moss, $6.99

Reitmans, $3.99

Streetwear Society, $4.99

Yaya, $5.99

And a great pair of white wide leg jeans that actually fit me well. They're about a foot too long so they need a hem.

Cleo, $4.00

We spent the evening at Roller Derby - something we didn't even know existed in our city. We have a team called the Tournament City Derby Dolls who are actually really good. We drank cheap beer/coolers, sweat our butts off due to the lack of a/c, and had a lot of fun. Having a group of friends with you is the key though - it would have been a bit dull if we didn't have people to laugh and drink with while watching the game.

After I got over a mild hangover this morning, I was determined to get out and do something fun. We packed up a picnic and headed out to Kamloops Lake. Neither of us had been there in our adult memories, so we thought we should probably try it out.

We had a little walk along Tranquille creek. And saw some guys gold panning.

I can see why we don't go to that lake - it was kind of gross. There wasn't really any beach and the water was all muddy... we didn't stay long.

Instead we decided to head back into town and while driving in we remembered that the wakeboarding competitions were still on at the park, so we took our little picnic over there and watched an hour or so of the competition. It was pretty fun until the wasps decided to bring all of their friends over and swarm us (Danny is allergic) so we hopped up pretty quickly and took the stuff back to the car.

We walked a bit downtown - shops really should be open on a Sundays.. I just want to put that out there as my two cents. I would have bought something, but those stores lost out on my money because they were closed!

All in all it was a pretty successful weekend. We have a night of good TV ahead of us (VMA's, True Blood, Curb Your Enthusiam) and I feel like I'm in need of a pedicure.

Great way to waste time

This is the cutest mini-golf game I've ever seen. And I just realized I've been playing it instead of working..

Go check it out! Wonderputt

San Diego: shopping haul

Until this trip, I had never been into an Anthropologie store before. I've browsed their website, but all I've ever found was that it was all beautiful, but way too expensive.

Now, I think it's my favourite store. Actually - Ikea will always have that title, so 2nd favourite.

It is just as beautiful as I thought and they have so many neat things. I really like that the housewares department isn't filled with items that you would see at hundreds other stores. All of the pieces are really unique and kitschy - and I love kitschy. I could have spent all day just browsing through the bins of knobs and door handles (I think I need to have that octopus one...).

As you can probably already guess, I bought a few things there.

This was the first item that made it into my basket. I'm not sure I would have given it a second glance if I was just walking past it, but Nancy brought me over and told me I had to get it (she also has one).

While sitting on your counter, it appears to be a ceramic version of an old fashioned milk bottle - which is totally cute enough.

But it gets better....

Each piece is a measuring cup!

I love the bright, glossy colours inside of each one.

The second thing I found was this awesome cookbook holder. I love anything to do with old style silverware - especially those hooks made out of forks that are circling the internet/pinterest world right now. I also saw some measuring spoons made to look like old spoons, but I didn't get them and I'm kicking myself now. Shipping is probably too much, so I'll have to make my way to an Anthropolgie store when I'm in Vancouver next. I just read that they opened a huge store.

I've seen these pencils online before, so as soon as I saw them I grabbed them up. Even if they never get used and stay forever on my shelf, they look super cute so it's ok.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love all things wiener dog (and I have 2 real ones).
I picked up this notepad and another notepad with a cut-out of a weiner dog all the way through each page (can't find it online) - I don't have pictures of the actual items because I was so excited to get them to the office the day after I got home.

I also got a couple of things at Crate and Barrel (who is now shipping to Canada!!!!) - another store I've never been into. It has a lot of nice basic kitchen items. I got some condiments spoons, as well as a nice big bamboo spoon.

Aren't they cute??

My new thing is trying to buy a piece of art on each trip - that way we can fill our walls with things that are meaningful and bring back memories when we look at them, rather than something just bought in a store. Though sometimes that's okay too - I still have a soft spot in my heart for inexpensive Costco art.

These are the few pieces I picked up. All are prints of original artwork. I'm excited to get them framed and pick out spots for each of them.

Links to all of the items, just in case you've fallen in love and need one (or two) of your own:

Friday phone photo dump

New Friday ritual =) I think I'm stealing this from someone... Kelle Hampton perhaps?..
